Saturday:

I didn’t manage to make any updates yesterday… and then today cruised on by. Oh well.

I called that girl today. I talked to her for about 10 minutes and nothing very interesting was said. She has my number now, though. Maybe I’ll get some phone calls…

I bought some new records today, too. That’ll help get me back on track after some of mine were stolen… sucky world.

While we were out and about, we ate at a nice Mediterranean place and saw some cuties. That’s always enough to put you in a good mood.

Now, I’m sitting around waiting for something fun to happen while I deal with some dumb computer problems… I’m gonna rearrange my room a little if nothing fun happens soon.

Saturday:

Las Vegas sorta sucks because you have to be 21 or over to do just about anything… I’m over 21, but I know lots of people who aren’t. I sort of think I might always know lots of people who are under 21, too.

Anyway, the whole city is sort of a fascist ageist regime. There are some specific places that are explicitly designed to be fun for children, but who really has fun at any place explicity designed for that purpose? It’s much more fun to just hang out and do stuff that looks interesting…

Amusement parks are for the meek-minded.

And Las Vegas pretends to be fun for all and then they sort of treat you like dirt if you’re not gonna waste your childrens’ inheritance on their stupid games.

Oh well.

Thursday:

So. I got to Las Vegas last night for Comdex. I wasn’t able to get to a computer to do an update until now. Novell has a big thing with computers available for people to use. Most of them seem to just be looking at random web pages. I’m not sure exactly why they would travel all the way to Las Vegas to do that, but whatever.

This thing is pretty huge. We’re in what I think is the smaller of the two convention centers. First, we went down to the Basement, where Be was, and that was sort of fun, but seeing the booth was a little anti-climactic because I’ve sort of already seen or read about all the stuff… the rest of the stuff down there was pretty boring. In the main hall, we saw a huge Creative Labs (the people who make Sound Blaster sound cards) booth. There was a big crowd, but they didn’t seem to be doing anything…

One booth has 3 of the SF Cheerleaders, too… sort of strange. It was some company I had never heard of, too.

Thursday:

Las Vegas is a strange town. It’s sort of pathetic in some ways. There’s all these multi-billion dollar buildings with lots of crazy lights saying, “Look at me!,” “Visit me!,” “Notice me!”

It’s a relentless, ongoing display of gross capitalism. It’s sort of exciting to see all the excess, but I just start worrying about all the energy that goes into it and I wonder if all this fun is really worth it.

Tuesday:

I’m going to Vegas! The whole idallas.com team (that’s me!) is heading to Las Vegas with Sage for Comdex! Wha-hoo!

I’m excited to check out the Be, Inc booth. That’s what’s dragging me all the way across the state…

I’m also excited to find out if my attempts at internet-based notoriety are panning out yet… I’m gonna pause in front of people to see if they recognize me… if they don’t, I’m just gonna mention that my friend Sage is “the Webring kid” and see if that rings a bell…

If not, I’ll be hurt, but it’ll only make me work harder!

Tuesday:

Argh.

I’m a little torn here. I hope you don’t mind. I don’t know what I should write about. One one hand, I want to entertain you, my ever-important and faithful audience. On other other hand, I just want to babble my crazy head off about whatever comes to mind.

On good days, those two goals work hand-in-hand (did you catch that… clever pun, huh?) and things go well. On others, the only things that come to mind are basically useless tidbits about my life and what a ridiculous life it is!

Anyway. I have opinions about lots and lots of things, but who doesn’t have an opinion these days? Opinions are a dime-a-dozen and always have been. I have ideas, too. Those are good, sometimes. If I give them all away, I’ll never be a fat rich bastard, though. If that isn’t gonna happen, I might as well just give up now.

You see my predicament, I hope. Any help would be appreciated.

Monday:

I had an odd experience today. I went to Fry’s yet again. This time I was picking up a new network card, another hub, and some more cable (to stretch across the house). Fun for the whole family. Ok. So… right after I exit the freeway, I see a sign saying UNITY with an arrow pointing in the direction of Fry’s. That’s cool, I think… and then I notice another sign saying RAGE pointing in the same direction. Weird, but whatever.

Then, while I was waiting in line to return the old network card I had bought (it was sucky), I overheard one of the dorks in the line next to me voicing his problems to the employee. I call him a dork because pretty much all people at Fry’s are dorks in some way or another. Anyway, he seemed to be saying that he had bought something at Fry’s and then paid to have it installed, and then it didn’t do what he wanted or something… and then he was mad because he couldn’t get that installation money back… what I wanted to know is how he could feel comfortable with himself actually admitting in public that he had paid to have something installed… c’mon, act like a dork!

Also, I later overheard some guy ask one of the sales people for a modem… he said he was going to be “downloading and stuff like that” … hmmm, technical guy I guess.

Also, I wondered to myself why almost everyone who works at Fry’s has an accent… what’s up with that?

Monday:

…and our water was fixed today. A couple of persistent drips had turned into indoor water sculpture. It was nice for when we had company over, but the constant sound of running water got old…

It took a long time for us to call the owners about the problem, but they fixed it pretty quick once I called them. That’s a dramatic departure from our previous repair requests… That’s a good thing.

Something that’s distressing me today (besides the sparse, unfocused nature of today’s update) is how hard it is to get to that point with someone where you can just kiss them all the time and not feel weird about it. There are so many steps before that, and the steps are all different for all people, and there’s no standards or anything so you have to play these sort of get-to-know-each-other games to also try to figure out if it’s even worth it…

I don’t know. I guess you probably get better at it.

Saturday:

We went to a pretty cool jungle party last night. It had a good crowd. Jungle parties around here are getting bigger. That’s cool, but it also means there’s more of that crowd that just comes for the drugs and doesn’t care what music is playing… I guess some of them eventually start getting into the music, too, but it is weird for the vibe to see a bunch of people rolling on each other…

Whatever, though.

I also ran into a girl that I’ve sort of known for awhile. She seems cool and into cool things. I got her number. Yay me!

Saturday:

I slept a lot again last night. Raar. Now I feel sort of overslept… like my head in rolling around in a tub of molasses.

I’ll deal, though.

Somebody complained that one of the dreamhost users was using our machine to ping flood them… I wish people wouldn’t do stupid stuff like that. Jerko-s.
